From Vogue to the New Yorker, in publishing, an editorial calendar is produced for the upcoming year. It’s the blueprint for future content, helping to plan, manage and schedule themes over a period of time. For me, it’s like an assistant that keeps me on track and helps organize the content | themes, so I am not duplicating myself over the year. Managing content for magazines takes an editorial and marketing team on a grand scale. For us, in the blogosphere, the scale is usually a little less grand. We also have to manage all individual editorial content for – newsletters, social media, and the blog. I’m an editorial team of one. My editorial calendar doesn’t expand into a full year; I’m good on a quarterly schedule – with flexibility! This means I can always change my mind!
As most of you know, this summer was not my most productive. I had an ongoing medical issue which we fixed with a procedure and a short overnight stay in the hospital. And, I feel like a ‘New Woman!’ I am going to write about it. This surprises me, I am usually a pretty private person, but I feel the experience I went through is more common than we may think. And, it is vital that we, as women are more in touch with our hearts.
Editorial Calendar : Coming Attractions
There are so many topics in this world to write about and discover. I’m intrigued by those that I’m not as familiar with and have to research. But, the realm of friendship, life experiences, the women I know, and those I would love to know is an area that never ceases to amaze me. The tractory of my life and the lives of the people around me is a fascinating journey that I never tire of exploring. I’m listing a variety of stories I will be creating that I hope you will enjoy. A few of the stories are listed below.
From the Heart
An eighteen-month journey hindered by a worldwide pandemic and a belief that “this too will pass!” Well, it didn’t…Not until we diagnosed it and fixed it. We have all heard that heart disease is the silent killer, especially for women. It is true. It is stealth and can go undetected, ignored, or misdiagnosed. It is because of this that I want to share my story and odessey with you.
Show Girls : Women in the Home Decor Business
In 1993 when I began my business, Small Indulgence, I had no idea how many women were involved in all facets of the and levels of the Home Decor business. Both small and mega, from the editorial|publishing sides of trade publications to manufacturing owners, designers, and retail. Women are at the helm. Yes, it’s been an evolution, and the evolution is not over yet. I spent 25 years in many aspects of the business. The caliber of the women I met was astounding. And not just in the U.S., but all over the world. It’s a fascinating story, and I’m excited to write about it.
You want to be a writer? : I do – Oh I am
I was hopscotching around a few podcasts and came across Rich Roll, ronroll.com. His guest was Neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Huberman. He was so fascinating. I want to hear more. But, what struck me was when the host, Rich Roll, began a discussion with the Dr. about his (Rich’s) writing block and how to overcome it! Well, that got my attention. It is a genuine phenomenon and one I have been dealing with for a few months. But, here I am writing about it! Operative word – writing. I want to share Dr. Huberman’s advice and some insights and stories of my journey as a writer.
The Book Report : Stories that changed my life
I was not a dedicated reader until my early twenties. I don’t know why. My mother was a reader, but it wasn’t until I was 18 and my boyfriend, at the time, was a voracious reader, and he took me to a book store. We walked in, and he said, “in here is everything that you need to know. All you have to do is read!’ WoW, that changed my life. Today, I devour books. I have traveled the centuries, met hundreds of characters, a few broke my heart, and others inspired me to step out of my box. Most of all, it opened a world to me and brought my imagination to the highest peaks.
Platinum Profiles
A few months ago, Forbes released the 50 over 50 reports of successful women over fifty. I gobbled up the profiles and felt reinforced and encouraged to write about the sterling woman I have met over the years. Some being best friends for decades, others dropping by my life for a short time. All of them leaving a lasting and, in some cases, continuing impression on my life and other women around them. I think you’ll like these women as much as I do.
The Third Wives Club
Marriage is a bit different the third time around. Especially when you’re the third, and he’s your first. But, in most instances, both partners are older, hopefully, more mature, and more understanding of the intricacies of intimacy. Two friends and I were hanging out one night and started talking about our lives…We’re all about the same age; we were all successful in our careers and all (mature) first-time brides, no kids. All of our husbands had previously been married – twice! It was a wonderful, funny, poignant conversation that I am looking forward to sharing.
A Ride Before Dawn
A Ride Before Dawn is the title of a memoir I am writing. Once I began to write my thoughts, waves of memory overcame me. The good, the bad, and the ugly all intermingled as if waiting to jump on the page and tell the story. So, I have, over the years, written about those moments that tossed my life around. Along with the rewards that came my way and changed my life direction. And the people and places that have formed the person I am today.
Paris : An uncommon love story
Paris is my attempt at writing a novel. I reviewed the first two chapters with my writing coach, and she said to take those first two chapters (approximately 7,000 words) – rework and combine them. Well, that was enough to send me into a writer’s coma. I thought the chapters were pretty good. Oh, and she said, “way too many words,” edit, edit. I was feeling a little deflated. I had worked so hard on the dialogue, setting the scenes, inventing characters, and now I have to start over. At the end of the day, it’s okay. I’m an AIT… Author In Training!
Thanks so much for continuing to stop by Platinum Boomer. I’ll be working to produce more content for all of you. And, I hope that there are words within these stories that will spark your imagination and speak to your heart!

September 21, 2021 at 9:24 amOh no! Not Paris! I was so looking forward to reading more…….it sounds like she was like Margaret (Sigourney Weaver) in the film “My Salinger Year”. This literary agency cut no slack. I hope you start once again on this novel. I will be waiting……
